Postcards from Paris

Postcards from Paris

In honour of our upcoming trip to Paris, here some photos from the last time Ruth and I were in Paris. I cannot wait to experience the days before Christmas in Paris, see all the beautiful decorations in the city of lights, eat croissants and pastries all day long, warm ourselves by drinking hot chocolate, shop at LaFayette and Avenue des Champ Élysées and photograph a winter version of this post.

Gordes

Gordes - France 2014

On the day of our arrival in France we always love to go out for dinner after we unpacked our stuff and bought groceries. What could be more perfect then to start our vacation with an evening in the picturesque Gordes? Luckily for us the restaurant Casa Rosario has the best pizza in the area and isn´t too far from where we are staying. We discovered the restaurant two years ago and have been there a lot ever since. It is always fun to drive to the top of Gordes on the narrow roads made for small French cars and tourists walking on the side trying to capture the beauty of Gordes on their cameras, but totally worth the view and delicious pizza!

La Cour aux Saveurs

Artisan Chocolatier - France 2014

In a secluded side street of L'Isle Sur La Sorgue you can find the 'Artisan Chocolatier' Florian Courreau. You can see his atelier and watch him make the most beautiful chocolates. The store has everything you could think of or wish for. From chocolates, chocolate bars, marshmallows (lollipops!) covered in chocolate, chocolate paste, chocolate cake, candies, do I need to continue? Best thing: you can taste all of it. La Cour aux Saveurs is the perfect combination of craftmanship, delicious and pure ingredients and a lovely service. You even get a small cooling bag for your purchases. It's perfect and a must visit when you are in the neighborhood!

An Invincible Summer

L'Isle Sur La Sorgue - France 2014

Whilst mid-December might not be the right time to be talking about baguettes and sunny strolls I still have a large back-log of unpublished France posts. I might use one of my favourite quotes as an excuse for still posting these summer pictures: "In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer." From the second the holidays are over and January approaches, I start longing for summer. So maybe it's a good thing that these photos bring me straight back to our stay in L'Isle Sur La Sorgue last August when the weather and life was oh so good.

But it ain't January yet, December is fabulous with all the holidays and family gatherings (maybe it's the overdose of fun we get in December that leaves us depressed when reality hits you in January). This Christmas I am visiting Paris (again!) with my sister and you have no idea how excited I am for that, read: you have no idea how many pastiserries are on my 'must-visit-list'. So I'm seriously trying to catch up before going there so I can share Christmas in Paris as soon as possible.

I don't want to be that kind of person that rants all year long and makes excuses for not updating regularly. Let's just blame University, which keeps me more than busy, from arranging internships to future career possibilities, and ofcourse my ultimate procrastination for everything that requires some sort of perfection.
Before I spoil these sunny summer memories with my excuses, I hope you are prepared for a overload of sunshine, happiness, deliciousness and typical beauty the South of France provides every summer, since there are quite some posts waiting to be shared.

"In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer. And that makes me happy. For it says that no matter how hard the world pushes against me, within me, there’s something stronger – something better, pushing right back." - Albert Camus
